Summer is a great time to head to the Sunshine State and Orlando is one of the best cities for families to visit. Summer months in Florida are hot and humid, but if you can deal with the heat, you’ll also save money by visiting off season. Places like Disney World, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, The Florida Mall (with the NEW American Girl Store), and even Downtown Orlando offer so much to do with activities for every member of your family. You’ll also get to enjoy delicious food, beautiful golf courses, and of course lots of sunshine and great weather.
Have you ever heard of the Biltmore Estate? It’s the largest privately owned home in the U.S. and it’s a sight to see! The 178,926 sq. ft. mansion on the 8,000 acre estate nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains makes for a trip you won’t soon forget. It’s rich in history, boasts stunning gardens, a winery, an outdoor adventure center at Antler Hill Village which includes horseback riding, fishing, segway tours, and hiking. You don’t have to worry about anyone getting bored! Don’t forget the food! Asheville is a foodie’s heaven! Take time to walk around downtown and enjoy the delicious restaurants that use fresh, locally grown foods. For a little quiet time, enjoy a drive and breathtaking views along the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway!
How about a little history lesson! Gettysburg is beautiful in the summer and full of interesting and unique things to do. Learn more about the Civil War and visit Gettysburg National Military Park, the Museums, take a Battlefield tour on horseback or take in the spectacular view up on Little Round Top. It’s an amazing place to visit and extremely educational as well.
This quiet, no high rise, old time Florida island is the perfect place for you and your family to unwind. Relax on the powdery white sand beaches and enjoy delicious, local fresh fish for dinner at the many one of a kind restaurants. After all- there are no chains here! Take a walk down Pine Avenue and browse around in the many unique shops. Put your order in at Anna Maria Island Donuts for a custom made fresh dozen of donuts and enjoy a great cup of coffee there too. Hop on the Anna Maria Island free trolley to visit all of the island’s different beaches or take a boat tour and catch a glimpse of a few dolphins and manatees. Let your worries wash away as you listen to the gentle waves and enjoy amazing sunrises and sunsets everyday in this little piece of paradise.
5. Niagara Falls, NY or Niagara Falls, Canada

Feel the mist from these magnificent falls this summer! Western New York and Canada are beautiful this time of year and you’ll get a different experience on each side of the falls. The New York side is quieter, boasts a state park with areas to picnic and take in the Niagara rapids. Take a ride on the Maid of the Mist or tour Cave of the Winds and hear the falls roar. The Canadian side has more activities and offers a completely different view. Check out the view from the Niagara Skywheel or the Skylon Tower and visit the Butterfly Conservatory. There’s so much to do, so don’t miss it!
