Lately the bananas I have been buying at the grocery store have been ripening like crazy! I don’t know if it’s because we’ve had the heat set a little higher in our house or because I’ve spent a little more time in the kitchen cooking, but after a few days I had some very ripe bananas on my counter ready to be made into something delicious. When it comes to ripe bananas, I never throw them away and I almost always make banana bread. Why? Well, it’s so simple to make and everyone loves it! My little kiddos will gobble up banana bread any time of day and it never goes to waste. Even though my family doesn’t mind having the same banana bread over and over again, I sometimes like to put a little something different and special into the mix. This Peanut Butter & Chocolate Chip Banana Bread is only slightly different from my go to Old Fashioned Banana Nut Bread that I always make. I simply swapped out the nuts with peanut butter and chocolate chips for an almost dessert type bread that will satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth. A slice of this moist banana bread with chocolate and peanut butter in every bite is a wonderful treat that is perfect with a tall glass of cold milk. This recipe makes 2 large loaves of bread, so you can serve one loaf to your family fresh from the oven and save the extra loaf in the freezer for a different day. If you’ve got ripe bananas on your counter and want to try something different, give this tasty recipe a try!
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 eggs
- 2 egg whites
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 6 very ripe bananas, mashed
- 3 3/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 cup half and half
- 1 (12 oz.) package Nestle Toll House Peanut Butter & Milk Chocolate Morsels, divided
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Sift the flour, soda, powder and salt and set aside.
- In your Kitchen Aid Mixer, beat the butter with the sugars until fluffy.
- Add the eggs and egg whites one at a time and beat well after each addition.
- Add the vanilla and mix.
- Add the mashed bananas and mix until well combined.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients, alternating with the half and half until combined well.
- Don't forget to scrape down the bowl to make sure everything gets blended well.
- Mix in 1 cup of the Peanut Butter & Milk Chocolate chips.
- Evenly fill 2 large, greased loaf pans with the batter.
- Evenly sprinkle the rest of the chips on top of the 2 loaves.
- Bake for 65 - 75 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.
- Let cool for at least 30 minutes or completely on a wire rack before removing the bread from the loaf pan. ( I let mine cool completely)
- Slice and serve with a glass of cold milk.
- *If freezing: Let cool completely and wrap well in plastic wrap and store in a plastic freezer bag.

Definitely going to try this but just curious – do you have a measurement on the bananas? Do you normally buy large bananas. I know you can never put too many bananas in banana bread but…
Thanks ~ Vicky

Hi Vicky! You know, I don’t have an exact measurement, but I usually use 6 regular sized bananas. If I happen to have very large bananas I only use 5. Sorry- I hope this helps. I hope you like this if you give it a try:)

I love love LOVE banana bread, especially when it is warm out of the oven. Quite honest, I haven’t had a chocolate-peanut butter version before, but I am sure it is just as amazing! Thanks for sharing 🙂

Thanks Eric! Warm out of the oven is the best- it seems to disappear a lot faster served that way too:)
