I can’t believe Thanksgiving is only a week away! Do you have your menu planned yet? How about that turkey? Do you have one thawing in the refrigerator or do you purchase a fresh bird? I myself have not made it to the grocery store to pick up a turkey yet because we are dealing with some really snowy weather here in Western New York. School has been canceled the last 3 days so my children are enjoying some cozy time at home. With the ridiculous amount of snow outside my kiddos have been begging to go out and play. The winds are really too strong and the temperatures are too frigid for them to play outdoors, so instead, they are being creative with indoor activities like coloring and playing with Play-Doh . I am trying to use this opportunity to put up a few Holiday decorations and to prepare some things ahead of time for our Thanksgiving meal like this delicious Easy Orange Cranberry Sauce!
If you have never made homemade cranberry sauce before, you must give it a try! It is very simple to make and the flavor is so much better than what you will get out of a can. This cranberry sauce takes only 10 to 15 minutes to make and it’s freezer friendly, which is why I love preparing it now. Fresh cranberries are mixed with sugar, a little orange juice & zest and simmered with a few sticks of cinnamon until the cranberries start to burst and thicken into a beautiful sauce your family will just love.
This is a sweeter sauce with a hint of tartness and citrus that goes so well with turkey, stuffing and all of your Thanksgiving or Holiday favorites.
This simple sauce adds such a great flavor to your meal and I know our Thanksgiving wouldn’t be the same without it. If you are thinking about trying a little homemade cranberry sauce this season, please give this yummy recipe a try. I think you will like it berry much! 😉
Ingredients
- 12 oz. bag fresh cranberries, rinsed
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3 Tbsp. orange juice

- 2 cinnamon sticks
Instructions
- In a medium sized sauce pan, combine the cranberries, 3/4 cup of sugar, the orange juice and orange zest.
- Stir together over medium heat until the sugar and liquid start to become like a syrup (just a few minutes).
- Add the 1/4 cup of water and the cinnamon sticks, stir.
- Continue stirring until the cranberries begin to burst.
- Turn the heat to low and continue stirring frequently until almost all of the berries have burst and the cranberry sauce has begun to thicken. (about 10 minutes)
- Remove from the heat and let cool to room temperature.
- Remove cinnamon sticks.
- Serve or store in a freezer friendly container for later.
- This recipe makes about 2 cups of Orange Cranberry Sauce, we often double it because it's so good!
- Enjoy!
