Geez… I know I say this a lot, but I can’t believe how fast this past month has gone by! Well, hello there August! I think August is my favorite summer month. My children have settled into a nice routine around the house (just in time for a new school routine next month!), our outdoor living & garden are in full swing and I feel like I can actually relax a bit. My husband & I are celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary this month too, so I was really excited to see what my stylist had in store for me this month.
I think I am getting a good feeling of what my style really is lately. When I first started Stitch Fix, I didn’t like how I looked in anything and I thought I owed it to myself to give this whole “styling thing” a try. I knew inside me somewhere there was a woman who liked to feel good in her clothes, and not just the sweatshirt and t shirt kind.
I had a few different stylists in the beginning, but I’ve stuck with the same one for the last 6 months because I feel like she really takes her time to choose items that are not only my style, but that will flatter my curvy shape and that I can feel good in. I have kept a lot of items because I felt so good in them. Something that I hadn’t felt in a long time because I had no desire to even go shopping or try clothes on. Now that I feel comfortable trying different styles and even pieces that I wouldn’t choose for myself, I’ve really enjoyed Pinning my favorite shirts, dresses and styles to my Pinterest Style Board. I am going to start being more selective with my purchases though. Just because something looks nice on you, doesn’t mean that’s the only thing that will look good on you and that you should keep it. I am looking for pieces that I need in my closet- or can’t live without! 😉
Right now I am loving dresses and clothing that has a nice feminine touch. I have always liked pieces that are a little unique and pieces that not everyone has. I don’t want to look like everyone else. I want to look like me! Just because I work out of my home doesn’t mean I can’t get dressed for work! I’ve even been gardening and doing light chores around the house in some summery dresses. They are so easy, cool during this hot weather and best of all- pretty. Of course my husband doesn’t mind this new trend of mine either!
Well, enough of my chitchatting…
Here’s My August Stitch Fix:
Papermoon Mixed Material Top $44
I actually really liked this shirt. It was casual, but more dressy than just a t shirt. The only problem was that this was a petite size, so it was really short. For some reason, petite shirts do not work on me even though I am only 5’1. I think it’s because I have a rather large bust and shirts just don’t fall or lay right. I kept trying to pull this down.
The Verdict: Returned
Level 99 Esme Straight Leg Jean $98
Oh my goodness! I felt like these jeans were painted on my legs! I was excited when I saw that these were in a petite size, because I need that for pants, but I did not feel comfortable in these. I also didn’t quite care for the color- I just didn’t know what to pair them with. They weren’t me & honestly I couldn’t wait to get them off… and breathe!
The Verdict: Returned
Collective Concepts Salford V Neck Blouse $64
I really liked this blouse. I liked the colors, and I really liked the subtle crochet detail down the front. It was dry clean only and even though I liked it, I didn’t think it was worth the $64, going into fall.
The Verdict: Returned
Papermoon Brandon Dress $68
I didn’t think I would like this dress when I pulled it out of the box, but of course I tried it on anyways. I don’t have a dress in this type of style and I really liked the lace/crochet detail on the shoulders. That was really pretty.
This dress is comfortable for summer and I think will be great even in the fall with a denim jacket.
The Verdict: Kept
Bay To Baubles Yale Beaded Nugget Teardrop Earring $28
These earrings were cute. I like that they are thinner and more delicate and not bulky, but I have something similar.
The Verdict: Returned
Are you getting a Stitch Fix this month? I would love to hear about it!

I love reading these! You are SO cute in that dress. I like the orange top, too. It’s so strange how we have a certain image of ourself and what does and doesn’t look good on us — I actually thought the “tight” jeans looked really cute on you! but I can understand how it would be a relief to take them off, too 🙂

Thank you so much Susan! Trust me- that picture of those pants looked way better in the photo than they did in person! Haha! 🙂 Have a wonderful week!

I have four kiddos that keep me busy and I have lost all desire to shop for myself! I started Stitch Fix and I love the ease of it. I’m waiting on my 3rd box as I type. I am taller than you but definitely curvy and I have the worst time with the tops looking too stretched across the top. Do you have a specific style or cut you ask for from your stylist? (re: tops) I haven’t settled into a routine with 1 particular stylist yet. I look forward to reading through your blog. So glad I found it! 🙂

Hi Terre! I’m so glad you are enjoying your Fixes! Tops are tricky, at least for me. I find that a v neck flatters my shape better, so I mentioned that on my style profile. My stylist now knows that and I feel like she really tries to make sure the things she picks for me will work. This month I loved the one shirt, but it was petite, so it didn’t work. I guess sometimes you just have to try things though to know for future fixes. Always make sure to leave thorough, honest feedback for each item though.I know that even though my stylist checks my Pinterest Style Board each month, that she’s not a mind reader:) I’ve probably gotten better at this with each fix too. Also once you get a stylist that you feel gets you- keep her! Request her each month…it’s like a friend that really knows me is sending me a package! I hope this helps & good luck with your next fix!

I just received my first fix! While I liked everything they sent, the sizing was all off ( I usually wear a L/12). How long did it take before your fixes became really good?
Shannon says
Hi Katie! My first 2 fixes, I never posted here on Cozy Country Living. It was a little bit of trial and error and I was still getting a feel for it. After a few months and requesting to stay with the same stylist after my 3rd fix, I felt like my fixes were really tailored to me. I didn’t hold back on my feedback and I made it a point to keep my Pinterest Style board updated, because your stylist will check that every month. Tell them what you like and what you don’t. You aren’t going to hurt their feelings and it’s your money. As far as the sizing, I think with any clothing, sizes vary. Make sure you mention how each item fit, so your stylist(s) will know. After a few fixes, they will really be able to get a good idea of the types of styles and fits you like. I hope that helps and I hope your next Fix is great! 🙂

I’m trying Stitch Fix for the first time this month. (So excited!) So I enjoyed seeing what you received, kept, and didn’t. You’re right; that dress will be a great piece to take you from summer to fall. It looks great with the jean jacket!

I love the dress! Good choice keeping that one. I have my next fix scheduled for September and can’t wait to see what they send me for fall! I kept everything in my July fix so I thought I better skip August so I don’t get tempted to keep everything again and spend to much money.
Shannon says
Thanks Mallory! I know, it’s hard when they send you a really good fix not to overspend. That’s how I kind of felt this month too. Once it’s August, I’m looking right ahead towards fall- I’m not focused on too much more summery clothing. Fall is my favorite season, so I am really looking forward to my September fix too. Have a great week:)

After seeing your July StitchFix I was inspired to give it a try. I too am a short, curvy girl with a nice bosom. I was unsure if I would like it because most mail order programs seem to be for tall, thin girls and I never see anything that looks appropriate for me. I was pleasantly surprised when I got my box Wednesday. I loved the dress they sent but it was too form fitting in the chest and I couldn’t close the last 2 inches of the zipper. One top was just slighter tighter than I likes, one I just didn’t know what to wear with it. I loved the stripped skirt they sent and kept it. It went great with a top I just happened to buy recently. And the earrings were cute but didn’t see spending that much for them. I’m going to give it another try and see what the next box brings. Thank you for the inspiration.
Shannon says
Hi Alicia! I’m so glad you gave it a try! You know, I am happy if I walk away with even one piece that I really, really like…then I feel like it’s really worth it to me. Skirts are perfect for this time of year and into the fall so it sounds like you kept a great item! Thank you so much for your sweet words and I hope you have a wonderful week! 🙂
