When I think of Autumn, I think of apples. I love the feel of the crisp air and the smell of the apples ripening on the trees in the orchard. This time of year, my children are getting ready to go back to school, and I am busy in the kitchen with all of these great seasonal foods that I am so lucky to have available in my area. Of course one of the easiest fall snacks is a fresh apple. You can throw one into your children’s lunch bag, or they can grab one out of the fruit bowl quickly on their way out the door in the morning and their snack is taken care of. Sometimes they want something that they can crunch and munch on though. Homemade snack mixes are great because you control what is in the mix. If your child or family doesn’t like a particular nut or dried fruit you can swap it out with another. The possibilities are endless.
This Autumn Apple Snack Mix has a great apple flavor from dried apples and Apple Cinnamon Cheerios . It’s also packed with golden raisins, dried cranberries, chopped pecans and a little bit of white chocolate for those of us who like a little chocolate in everything:) The best part about this mix is that it can be made quickly on the weekends, divided and stored in snack size baggies and it’s all ready to go for the upcoming school week. Making your own mix can also save you money at the grocery store. I don’t know about you, but those 6 pack snack mix boxes available at the store don’t seem to last very long in our house. Snack mix isn’t just for school either! Take a bag along with you to work or on a beautiful hike through the woods this time of year. You may also want to come up with your own snack mix. If you have younger children at home, they will love to see their creative food ideas come to life in the kitchen.
