I can’t believe we are in the middle of October already! The wonderful, but busy Holiday season is just around the corner. I don’t know about you, but I like to start planning our parties and family get-togethers a little bit ahead of time. This means scheduling and meal planning while still allowing time for myself to enjoy the Holidays as well. It’s a shame if all of your time is spent planning special parties and then you don’t get to enjoy them because you have been running around last minute and are exhausted. Make sure this Holiday season you plan ahead so you can set aside time for family and friends and enjoy a glass (or 2) of Sonoma-Cutrer Wine together.
I really enjoy wine. I love having a nice glass of Pinot Noir by the fire on a chilly evening with my husband or over dinner with our family. For the Holidays, I always try to make my wine selections special. Sonoma-Cutrer has been producing the finest quality wines since it opened as a vineyard company in 1973. Its foundation is built in the hillsides and rocky foothills in the region recognized as the Sonoma Coast Appellation. This region experiences long, even growing seasons thanks to the cool, foggy coastal climate. In the 70’s, the company planted several different grape varieties and virtually overnight Sonoma-Cutrer’s Chardonnay grapes had gained a reputation for exceptional quality and were in high demand by many premium wineries.
Sonoma-Cutrer Pinot Noir has an elegant balance of sensuous fruit and lovely silky tannins. I love to close my eyes and just smell the wine before taking a sip! The initial impression of this wine starts in the nose with deep, dark fruit aromas of blackberry, raspberry, and black cherry with a touch of cola. Classic red fruit flavors of cherry and wild strawberry are hallmarks of this vintage Russian River Pinot Noir. The wine is round, silky, and elegant with a juicy mid-palate and a wonderful long finish. It goes well with this Beef & Four Cheese Lasagna Casserole that can be served for a family dinner.
Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay is also a wonderful wine to celebrate with during the Holidays. Aromas of Fuji apple, fresh roses, lime, lemon blossom and nectarine are complemented with touches of nougat, baking spices and Sonoma-Cutrer’s signature wet stone minerality. True to the Russian River Ranches style, this wine is elegant and balanced with a nice, bright acidity and a long focused structure. It’s Crisp and zesty flavors of lemon drop, lime and grapefruit are accented with a nice barrel spice. A light, creamy mid-palate flows into a crisp, citrus acidity rounding out to a long and persistent finish and would be delicious paired with this simple Campanelle with Garlic Red Pepper Pesto or brought along as a hostess gift!
Whatever you are celebrating this Holiday season, raise your glass and have a toast with Sonoma-Cutrer!
