After a yucky week of being sick, I finally felt better this weekend and was in the mood for some family time! I went to the Dr.’s and was given the diagnosis of Strep Throat. Ugh! My kiddos had been really concerned and helped out around the house as much as they could. Because they are so sweet, they also wanted to give me lots of hugs and kisses to make me feel better, but that was definitely off limits. I didn’t want to pass this on to them. After I had been on my antibiotics for a few days, I was ready to snuggle up with them, relax and get Family Movie Night started. I’m so happy I picked up The Boxtrolls and a 10 Count Box of Pop Secret Homestyle Popcorn (Available While Supplies Last) on my last trip Walmart, so we were all set to go!
My little guys are really quite creative, so I thought it would be fun to make a little Boxtrolls craft during the day before we watched the movie at night. With the skies gloomy, the ground covered in snow and with chilly temperatures, a fun craft indoors on the weekends always makes us happy!
Since the Boxtrolls is about an boy who is raised by “The Boxtrolls” we thought it would be fun to make my children’s favorite stuffed animals and toys their own Boxtroll Box. This craft isn’t anything fancy, but sometimes those are the best types of crafts. The important thing is to have fun, and my kiddos were really proud of their boxes.
We used simple supplies that we had around the house like empty cereal boxes and crayons. We cut the boxes and shaped them to the size of their animals. Then we cut holes in the bottom of our boxes for legs and holes on the sides for arms and got decorating. Everyone had their own style and ideas so each box was unique.
My children loved putting these cute boxes on their toys and they were now ready for the main event…The Movie! I popped a few bags of Popcorn, grabbed some pillows and blankets, grabbed the remote and pressed play.
To me there is nothing better than Family Movie Night. No matter how your week goes, no matter what is going on in the world around you, it’s always nice to take a little time out and focus on what’s important. Your family.
My kiddos really liked this movie and we had a really nice evening together. They were even talking about the funny parts the next day, so I am sure we will be watching it again real soon. If you want to start Family Movie Night with your loved ones, there’s no time like the present. Grab your copy of The Boxtrolls today and have fun!
