Even though I spend A LOT of time cooking and baking in my kitchen, there are just some times when I need a break. I make many meals and snacks ahead of time and freeze them for those crazy, hectic type days that many of us have. I also purchase several frozen foods at the grocery store on a regular basis as well.
Frozen. How Fresh Stays Fresh! Freezing food locks in the flavors and nutrients that we love. So how does fresh vs frozen compare? Freezing foods is nature’s pause button and one of the most trusted ways to keep our food fresh. The benefits of frozen foods are that it keeps just picked, just baked and just prepared food at their best. When I am not reaching for my own frozen foods in the freezer, I am taking advantage of some great frozen food products at the grocery store to keep on hand.
On those mornings when I might be dragging my feet a bit or running around getting my children ready for school, I still try to make sure I eat a good breakfast. I love something warm for breakfast, so Kellogg’s MorningStar FarmsBreakfast Sandwiches are a tasty, quick and easy meal. The Sausage, Egg and Cheese sandwiches are my favorite. They are made with veggie sausage, egg and cheese on a thin whole grain English muffin. It’s ready in a few minutes and it keeps me satisfied until lunchtime.
After testing recipes in the kitchen all week for Cozy Country Living, I need to have a little portion control with my meals. Nestle Lean Cuisines are made from fresh ingredients, are sold in single servings and come in a wide variety of meals. I just love their Spa Collection. Their colorful Sesame Stir Fry with Chicken is really, really good. Broccoli, edamame and white meat chicken are tossed in a delicious sesame sauce over whole wheat vermicelli to give you a great lunch full of veggies and protein.
I am always looking for a late afternoon snack too. I don’t have to feel guilty when I grab one of ConAgra’s Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurts out of the freezer though. Each frozen yogurt is only 100 calories per serving, is made with no artificial flavors and has a wonderful creamy texture that makes it a really nice way to cool off this Summer.
Ahh, desserts. Now desserts are definitely one of my biggest weeknesses! After the children have gone to bed and my husband and I can have a little “grown up” time to talk or watch television, I often like to indulge in a sweet treat. Schwan’s Edward’s Key Lime Pie is always a winner at our house! Rich and creamy Key Lime filling inside that thick, buttery graham crust, topped with whipped cream… it’s like heaven in every bite and a very nice way to end a long day. I love that they can be purchased in individual slices too. Once again, more portion control for me! 🙂
