Guess what? I have a few more peach recipes to share with everyone! I hope you have had a chance to enjoy some fresh peaches this season. Last night, my wonderful sister-in-law brought me about 30 lbs. of fresh peaches from the mini orchard in her backyard. It was so nice of her and I greatly appreciate her thinking of us. My children were so excited about these peaches! They were so pretty and they were so delicious! Before dinner, everyone had eaten at least 2 or 3 of those juicy peaches. Of course after all of the peach excitement, came all of the peach recipe requests- Peach pie, peach muffins, peach oatmeal, peach applesauce, peach cobbler and of course peach crisp. With all of these peaches, I knew I better have some plans for them. I got started right away, and decided to make this Old Fashioned Peach Crisp for a late night dessert. This Peach Crisp is a simple, classic, comforting dessert. It’s perfect to serve when you have weekend guests or a big family dinner. The old fashioned oats add a wonderful texture to the buttery, crumble topping that covers the fresh sweet peaches. If you don’t have a “go to” recipe for Peach Crisp or you haven’t tried making it before, give this a try. I promise your family will love it!
Ingredients
- 4 lbs. fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 2 cups old fashioned oats
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup butter, cold and cut into cubes
- 4 Tbsp. white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- In a 9 x 13 inch baking dish, combine the peaches, 1/2 cup flour, 3/4 cup sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg and stir gently.
- In your Kitchen Aid Mixer or with a pastry blender, combine the 1 1/2 cups of flour, the butter, the 4 Tbsp. of white sugar, the 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 tsp. of salt.
- Mix until it looks like coarse meal.
- Add the oatmeal and squeeze it into the other mixture to make large clumps.
- When well combined, drop the clumps over the peaches and break it up a bit as you drop it.
- Cover the peaches evenly.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the peaches are bubbly.
- Let cool 10 minutes and serve warm with a scoop of your favorite vanilla ice cream on top!
- Serves 8-10.
