Our family goes on vacation in the Spring. Sometimes we fly and sometimes we drive. This year we’re driving and I’ve found that the key to a good and smooth ride or road trip is always planning! Last year I wrote a post, 10 Tips For Family Road Trips where I shared some of the simple things our family does for a smooth drive with the whole family. Today I am sharing some easy tips for Packing Family Friendly Road Trip Snacks because if you have kids and you’re on the road you are going to hear, “Mom, I’m hungry!.”
Our drive to Florida takes us about 18 hours. Obviously we are going to need to stop for meals at some point, but for snacks, I like to pack our own. Eating while driving can save you time and money, but it also can help with those stomach aches you may get from eating not-so-good-for-you foods constantly along the way at rest stops. A small cooler packed with snacks can keep your stomach and your whole family happy on a long road trip.
Since it’s important to get in your fruits and veggies everyday, I like to pack them along in our cooler for the car. I use Glad MatchWare 25 oz. containers and 42 oz. containers to get everything ready. These sizes work really nice for snacks or even lunches. Two small children can even share a container in the back seat, while the adults share one in the front. The best part about packing snacks in containers in the cooler is that it helps keep your cooler and car organized. I don’t know about you, but when I am in the car for a long period of time, I like it to be as neat, organized and functional as possible. If you don’t have a designated place for garbage, you can always place any wrappers, or stems from grapes and such back into the container and close it until you are at the next rest stop where you can throw it away.
Here’s a peak some of the yummy snacks I’m packing in Glad containers for our Road Trip:
*Grapes, Strawberries, Blackberries, Carrots, Colby Jack Cheese Cubes, Carrots, and Nuts
*Fig Bars, Yogurt (with disposable spoons), and Mandarin Oranges
*And because I like a sweet treat once in a while, I’m packing some chocolate! Go ahead- pack your favorite chocolate! You don’t have to worry about it melting or squishing if you pack it in a Glad container and stick it in the cooler.
These are just a few of the things you can pack, but the options are endless. You can make PB & J sandwiches or even Make Ahead Salads! Set aside a little time before your trip and make a few snacks. When you’re on the road, you and your family will be so happy you did!
Safe travels!
