Earlier in the week my family and I had a little crafting party to celebrate the Morton Salt Girl’s 100th Birthday! That’s right, 100 years! We started our party with a little baking of course. You have to have food at a party! 🙂
I was one of 100 bloggers in 100 cities chosen to celebrate the beloved little girl on the front of all your favorite Morton’s Salt products. They sent me a great party kit that included some really fun things!
My children loved helping me set up our party table complete with decorations, napkins, and neat customized M & M’s.
Along with that, I was provided great recipes for every occasion and fun trivia and party ideas.
My older children really liked the Morton Party Trivia and learned a lot! Did you know that the word Salary comes from the word salt? “Salary” comes from Roman times when salt was so precious it was used as cash. Did you also know that the saying “When It Rains It Pours” came about when Morton was looking to market a new product, a salt that would flow freely even in damp weather, which was an innovation at the time. Morton decided to run a series of ads in Good Housekeeping magazine promoting it’s new product. An ad was developed featuring the Morton Salt Girl and the following copy: “Even in rainy weather, it flows freely.” Shortened to the famous slogan, “When It Rains It Pours”!
We chose this yummy Morton recipe for Salted Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies to bake in the morning. My little helpers loved making these cookies and sprinkling the sea salt on top!
These cookies are slightly crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. The buttery oatmeal batter has chocolate and salt in every bite. I think my kiddos would have eaten them all if I would have let them!
We let the cookies cool (even though they are amazing warm too!) during nap time, but after everyone was up it was Party Time!
We decided to make our own little umbrellas. We used coffee filters, crayons, markers, stickers and pipe cleaners.
Everyone had a blast being as creative as possible and showing their own unique style and ideas. We snacked on the cookies while we crafted! These cookies are delicious and are freezer friendly too!
My oldest thought her umbrella was perfect for her American Girl Doll, and it was. 🙂
As a hostess gift, I was given a very special umbrella. I love this yellow umbrella because I have always loved that Morton Salt Girl! I won’t be using it much though, because it’s become someone else’s favorite outdoor accessory!
