I love a really great side dish. This Broccoli & Cheese Bake is just amazing! It is a savory, cheesy, melts in your mouth, type of comfort food dish. This recipe is great for a large family meal, a potluck, or even great for a brunch! This recipe is small on time but big on taste! I think it’s a wonderful feeling to bake something for your family and not have any leftovers:) If you make this yummy Bake, I hope it becomes a family favorite!
Ingredients
- 14 oz. fresh or frozen broccoli florets, cooked for 8 minutes and drained
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 of a small onion, finely minced onion
- 1 clove of garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup half-and-half
- 1 cup 2 % milk
- 1 3/4 cups freshly grated Sharp Cheddar cheese
- 3 large eggs, beaten
Instructions
- Pre heat oven to 350°.
- Butter a 2 1/2 quart casserole dish.
- Place the cooked and drained broccoli in the casserole dish.
- Heat the butter in a large saucepan; add onion and sauté for about 2 to 3 minutes, until onion is tender, add garlic and saute just until fragrant.
- Stir in flour until well blended and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
- Add the pepper,salt, milk and half-and-half.
- Continue cooking over low heat until thickened.
- Stir in cheese and cook just until cheese is melted.
- Add about 1/3 of the hot mixture to the beaten eggs; add back to the hot mixture, blending well. Pour over the broccoli.
- Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, until a knife inserted in the center of the broccoli casserole comes out clean.
