My boys Love Skylanders! Over the past few years, they have built quite a collection of Skylander figures and accessories for their Skylander Giants, Swap force and Trap Team Wii Games. If all of their homework is done on school days and on weekends, my boys use their electronic time to play a game or two. There are definitely times when my boys fight and get upset with one another, but when they are playing Skylanders, they get so excited and they work together to come up with strategies to defeat the “bad guys”. I love that their fun game time includes spending quality time together.
This past weekend, with the help of General Mills, I held a Skylanders Sleepover Party and I invited a handful of cousins over for all of the fun! General Mills and Skylanders have teamed up to offer an exclusive Skystones game free inside your favorite boxes of cereal. For a limited time, hidden inside specially marked General Mills cereals, fans will find Skystones cards that can be played on the game board found on the back of the cereal box. Your Skylander fans can Collect all four Skystones game card sets that come with a downloadable code to unlock characters in the popular mobile Skylanders game. How fun!
We started our Skylander Sleepover Party by having a tasty, simple dinner with cheese pizza, carrots and strawberries. After everyone was nice and full, we headed down to the family room for some game time! A few of the boys played a Skylander’s Wii Game, while the other kiddos looked through their goodie bags!
Each guest received a Skylanders life trap, a party blowout, stickers, a ring, a few packs of Skystones for the game on the back of Big G cereal boxes and a really cool Skylander mask that instantly transformed each child into their favorite character! I just loved these masks and everyone used them throughout the whole party too. Aren’t they great?!
Then it was Game Time! We had several different Skystone games going on at once. The Skystones game is full of family fun and fuels development through imaginative and cognitive play. The Skystones themselves are pretty cool too. Even my youngest loved looking at them and was thrilled to get in on the game action as well.
Of course after all of that play, my Skylander fans were ready for a little sweet treat. All of the children really enjoyed the simple vanilla frosted chocolate Skylander themed cake I made for dessert! The adults liked it too! 🙂
To end our eventful evening, we got ready for Piñata time. I filled the Skylanders pinata with fruit snacks and with my husband holding the Piñata way up high, the kids tried to break into it. These guys were tough cookies, so they hit and kicked at it (with controlled force of course) until it broke open. They had so much fun!
After everyone put their pajamas on and brushed their teeth, the boys played a few more games of Skystones until they got really tired and decided to call it a night. I think they were especially tired because they did have a full day of school before the party. I was sure they would be sleeping in a little bit in the morning because of that. Wrong…
At 6 am, those boys were up and playing Skylanders games again! My nephew told me this was the best party ever!
For breakfast we made fun & easy, 2 ingredient “Bouncer” Yogurt Parfaits with tasty General Mills Reese’s Puffs cereal. My boys thought that the cereal looked like the round bullets Bouncer shoots, and would be perfect for the party’s breakfast. The kids really thought these were great and they make a nice snacks! We also had other yummy Big G cereals available for breakfast in the morning as well.
My boys talked about their party and played with all of their new Skylander items the rest of the weekend. I was so happy that they had such a great time during their first Sleepover! If you’ve got big Skylander fans at home, consider throwing your own party! It doesn’t even have to be for a birthday, it can be just be because and it can be a Family Event!
The next time you’re in the cereal aisle, look for participating Big G brands like Honey Nut Cheerios, Frosted Cheerios, Fruity Cheerios, Reese’s Puffs, Cookie Crisp, Lucky Charms, Trix and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Make sure to look for coupons and even more special offers and free prizes inside boxes of General Mills cereals throughout the year!
