It’s football time again, can you believe it?! My family loves to root on our favorite NFL teams and even get a football game of our own going outside on the weekends. We have a large front yard that is perfect for tossing the ball around in some friendly competition! Whether we are on the field or in our living room, a tasty dessert type, chocolate snack is always fun!
Popcorn is always a big hit at our house. It’s easy, and can be served to a crowd, especially if you have company over for a game. When I was in the candy aisle at Sam’s Club the other day, I spotted a 48 ct. box of Snickers and a 105 ct. variety bag of Mars candy bars.
I thought these would be perfect to create a popcorn mix that everyone would love and that I could even bring along to someone else’s house on game day. I know, the boxes of candy sound really large, and they are, but let me tell you…you are probably going to make this recipe a few times because it’s so good!
This Sweet & Salty Snickers Popcorn is really good and highly addictive! Lightly salted popcorn is mixed with chopped Snickers Bars, pretzels and mixed nuts, then drizzled and tossed with a warm homemade caramel, then baked in the oven and cooled for a crunchy sweet and salty treat that is very hard to stop snacking on!
It’s so easy to make too! The caramel is made in 5 minutes, on your stove top while the popcorn is popping in the microwave.
The popcorn is placed into a large roasting pan that has been sprayed with non stick cooking spray.
Then I add the chopped Snickers candy bars, the pretzels and the nuts, drizzle it all with the warm caramel and then toss it together until everything is well coated.
The Sweet & Salty Snickers Popcorn then goes into the oven for 1 hour, stirring well every 15 minutes. You then remove the popcorn from the oven and let it cool completely before serving. How easy is that?!
I have to admit, I was munching on this every time I would stir it, and then when I was taking photos. I started out serving this in a large bowl, but then decided to serve this in portion controlled mason jars before I accidentally ate way too much of this! 🙂
If your family loves football and loves to snack on game day, give this yummy #Chocolate4TheWin recipe a try at your house! Don’t forget to serve some of MARS Fun Size Candy Bars along side this special treat!

Could this be made with bagged hulless popcorn>\.
Shannon says
Hi Linda! I think it would work out just fine that way!
Breanna says
Hi! I’m wanting to make this soon – it looks delicious! But i’m having trouble visualizing the baking part. Should it be spread in a layer? Does it all melt together in one chunk like a brittle, and then is broken apart?
Shannon says
Hi Breanna! The baking helps everything melt together and the flavors blend well. I used a big roasting pan and just put everything into that and then mixed it. It doesn’t have to be perfectly layered or anything because you will be mixing it a lot. The Snickers will melt and spread onto the rest of the popcorn when you mix it each time. You won’t have to really break it apart like brittle when it’s finished, it won’t be hard like that. I couldn’t stop munching on it even when it was warm:) I hope that helps…
Stacy says
How far in advance can I make this for a get together ?
Shannon says
Hi Stacy! I usually make this the morning of, but I think you would be okay making it the night or even day before.
Margean wilson says
this sound so good can you use air popcorn and if so how much
Shannon says
Hi Margean! I haven’t used air popcorn, but I don’t see why you couldn’t! I think a normal bag of popcorn pops 4 – 4 1/2 cups of popcorn, so you would need about 12 or 13 cups of popcorn. If you make this let me know how you liked it! 🙂
Cindy says
Tried this. Sounded sooooo good. I would not put the snickers in the popcorn, pretzel, nut mix when you put the caramel on. I did. And when you bake it on a low oven, the candy bar pieces melt and burn to the bottom of the pan. I’d put the candy bar in as soon as it comes out of the oven process and mix it in. It may melt a little but you’ll still taste the candy.
Shannon says
Hi Cindy! I am SO sorry this didn’t work out for you. I hope it wasn’t a complete
waste for you. I know ovens are different and Mine has never burnt (I’ve made it
several times) but I did use a little non stick cooking spray in the bottom of the
pan. The Snickers was meant to melt, but the recipe is pretty flexible to add or
take out whatever ( whenever ) you like. Thanks so much for taking the time to let
me know how it worked out for you. I hope you give it another try, maybe doing what
you suggested because the flavors together are really good!

Can you tell me the approximate amount of popped pop corn. I usually don’t make microwaved popcorn. We like to pop the regular pop corn. This sounds like it will be wonderful.
Mommy on Demand says
This sounds amazing! I participated in the same shop and needed some more recipes to use up some more Snickers bars. Yum Yum!! Can’t wait to give this a try!! Thanks for sharing at our Weekend Retreat!

Thank you so much! 🙂

my son in law has a peanut allergy. could this be made with twix or milky ways? sounds delicious, will have to make some with snickers too!!=D
Shannon says
Hi Karen! Absolutely! This would be great with Twix or Milky Ways! Maybe add a few extra pretzels to make up for the nut part:) Enjoy and let me know how it turns out!
S. Ruthven says
How well does this keep? I am the only one in this house who eats snacks like this, but I have to try it! Can you store it w/o it getting soggy or stale?
Shannon says
This does keep pretty well but, I would maybe cut the ingredients in half so you don’t have so much. I does make a ton! We keep our extras in a large plastic container or large mason jars. It’s best eaten the first few days in my opinion though. I hope this helps:)
Mimi says
Wow!!! Please bring some over. That looks incredible 🙂
Shannon says
Thanks Mimi! 🙂
Linda says
OMG! That’s all! 😉

Linda recently posted…What’d You Do This Weekend? #81
Shannon says
🙂 Linda- it’s so addicting! Make sure you make it when you have a crowd over, or else you will be munching on it every time you step into your kitchen!
Sharon Reeve says
I have read that microwave popcorn has a couple of chemicals that are bad for your health. Can I use fresh popped corn instead?
Shannon says
Hi Sharon! Fresh popcorn would work just fine too! Enjoy:)
